Moses Wetang’ula Mourns Brother James Wetang’ula, Calls for Unity and Regional Transformation

National Assembly Speaker  Moses Wetang’ula has paid a moving tribute to his late brother, Mwalimu James Mukhwana Wetang’ula , describing him as a dignified leader, mentor to many, and a man deeply grounded in faith and service.

Speaking during the final funeral ceremony held at the family home in **Tuuti Kibabii, Bungoma County**, Wetang’ula said the family was overwhelmed by grief but resolved to remain strong and carry forward the legacy left behind by his departed brother.

“James was not only my brother, but also a dear friend, adviser, and confidant. He lived a good and dignified life, rooted in the Catholic faith, values he faithfully instilled in all of us,” Wetang’ula said.

He expressed gratitude that his brother departed after a life marked by purpose, integrity, and service to the community, noting that his impact would continue to be felt by those he mentored and inspired.

Amid the solemn gathering, the Speaker urged residents of the Western region to embrace unity and teamwork as the cornerstone of sustainable development. He called on leaders and citizens alike to work together in transforming the region and improving the lives of its people.

Wetang’ula also assured mourners of the President’s commitment to reviving stalled infrastructure and economic projects in the Western bloc. He cited the planned revival of key sugar mills, including Nzoia Sugar Factory, as part of a broader strategy to rejuvenate the regional economy and create opportunities for local communities.

Quoting former U.S. President John F. Kennedy, Wetang’ula encouraged Kenyans to adopt a spirit of patriotism and service, urging them to focus on what they can contribute to national development.

The family of Mzee Dominic Khaemba Wetang’ula thanked Kenyans for the overwhelming support, prayers, and kindness shown during their time of loss, saying the compassion extended to them had greatly eased their burden of grief.

As he concluded his tribute, Wetang’ula bid farewell to his brother, wishing him eternal peace and reaffirming the family’s commitment to honor his memory through unity, faith, and service to the people.
