LDP Raises Alarm Over Impending Collapse of Kenyatta National Hospital, Cites Governance Failures

The Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) has issued a strong warning over the imminent collapse of Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH), describing the situation at the country’s premier national referral and teaching facility as a national emergency driven by systemic governance failures.

In a press statement released on December 27, 2025, the party expressed grave concern that KNH’s deteriorating state is not accidental, but the result of prolonged mismanagement, entrenched corruption, and the diversion of public resources meant for healthcare delivery. According to the LDP, funds intended for medical supplies, infrastructure development, and staff welfare have been grossly misappropriated, leaving millions of Kenyans, especially the most vulnerable, exposed to unacceptable health risks.

The party squarely placed responsibility on the government, noting that repeated warnings from healthcare workers, professional associations, and members of the public have been consistently ignored. Instead of instituting decisive corrective measures, the LDP argues that authorities have allowed administrative inefficiencies to persist, steadily eroding both the financial stability and human capacity of the hospital.

LDP further raised alarm over the increasing politicization of the public service, alleging that senior government officials have been diverted from their constitutional mandates to pursue partisan political interests. The party described this as a dangerous distortion of national priorities, particularly at a time when the health sector is under severe strain and public confidence in institutions is waning.

While national political discourse remains dominated by rival slogans and electoral posturing, the Liberal Democratic Party distanced itself from what it termed empty political theatrics. The party emphasized that its focus is on developing functional governance models and practical solutions capable of delivering healthcare services with efficiency, accountability, and precision.

Presenting itself as a technocratic movement grounded in meritocracy and evidence based decision making, the LDP stated that its governance philosophy prioritizes systems that serve citizens rather than political elites. The party underscored its commitment to competence, integrity, and results driven leadership.

To avert a total collapse of Kenyatta National Hospital, the Liberal Democratic Party issued a series of urgent demands. These include immediate financial and administrative intervention to restore funds collected through the e citizen platform back to KNH, the commissioning of an independent and transparent forensic audit of all government allocations and internally generated revenues, and an immediate halt to the misuse of public servants for partisan political activities in line with constitutional and ethical standards.

The party also called for clear accountability measures and decisive action against individuals found culpable of mismanagement or diversion of healthcare resources. Additionally, it urged a shift away from political spectacle toward practical governance, particularly in critical sectors such as healthcare.

Reaffirming that healthcare is a constitutional right rather than a political talking point, the LDP maintained that the continued decline of Kenya’s national referral hospital reflects a profound leadership failure that demands urgent correction.

The Liberal Democratic Party concluded by affirming its solidarity with healthcare workers, patients, and all Kenyans calling for functional public institutions anchored in professionalism, transparency, and accountability.
