Law Society of Kenya President Faith Odhiambo Mourns the Passing of Hon. Justice Mohammed Ibrahim, SCJ
The President of the Law Society of Kenya (LSK), Her Excellency Faith Odhiambo, has expressed deep sorrow following the passing of Hon. Mr. Justice Mohammed Ibrahim, SCJ, describing him as a jurist of rare grace, distinguished intellect, and profound moral authority.
“I have received the sad news of the passing on of Hon. Mr. Justice Mohammed Ibrahim, SCJ. Justice Ibrahim served on the Bench with unparalleled grace and a distinguished intellect. His rare calmness spoke of a man who fully understood the role of judicial authority as an opportunity to serve, and the nuances of justice as a tool for maintaining social order,” Ms. Odhiambo said.
She noted that Justice Ibrahim’s passing is a monumental loss to the Supreme Court, the Judiciary, and the administration of justice in Kenya.
Justice Ibrahim was a towering source of inspiration to many, particularly as a trailblazer who became the first member of the Kenyan-Somali community to be admitted to the Bar, at a time when the community faced significant marginalisation. He dedicated much of his early legal career to the defence of human rights and the promotion of a fair, just, and equal society.
Ms. Odhiambo highlighted that Justice Ibrahim carried his record of excellence and ethical conduct throughout his nearly decade-long tenure as a Judge of the High Court, and later into his service on Kenya’s inaugural Supreme Court bench, where he emerged as an independent and astute voice of reason.
“His sound contributions to Kenya’s jurisprudence portrayed a great wealth of knowledge, depth of character, and unwavering dedication to the advancement of the law. He will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of experiencing him,” she added.
The Law Society of Kenya extends its profound condolences to the family, friends, and the entire Judiciary fraternity on this immense loss.
“May his soul rest in peace, and may perpetual light shine upon him,” Ms. Odhiambo concluded.
