Huruma Ward Aspirant Harun Maina Condemns Brutal Assault of Local Photographer, Demands Justice

Huruma Ward Member of County Assembly (MCA) aspirant on the Democratic Change Party (DCP) ticket, Harun Maina, has condemned an incident in which a young local photographer was allegedly assaulted by a county askari on Monday.

According to Maina, the victim, Macharia, a Gen Z photographer who operates his business at the Yellow Line area near Rafiki Bank, was “brutally beaten” by a county enforcement officer reportedly for being a supporter of a local public figure known as Wamunyoro.

Maina said he rushed to the county cell to secure the young man’s release after receiving a distress call from Macharia’s father, a taxi driver in the area.

“Yesterday’s incident is not just an attack on Macharia, but an attack on our entire community and the values we stand for,” Maina stated. “We cannot allow our youth—many of whom are working hard to earn a living—to be terrorized and brutalized by county askaris despite operating legally and paying the required licenses.”

The DCP aspirant questioned why elected leaders have not taken action to curb what he described as growing harassment by enforcement officers.

“How is it that leaders entrusted with oversight cannot summon these officials to account for their actions? We demand accountability. We demand justice,” he said.

Maina called for immediate disciplinary action against the officer involved and urged the county government to investigate the conduct of enforcement officers within the central business district.

“We will not be intimidated,” Maina added. “Our community deserves safety, respect, and dignity—and I will continue standing with our youth whenever they face injustice.”
