Deputy President Kindiki Mourns Supreme Court Judge Mohamed Ibrahim
Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has led the nation in mourning the death of Supreme Court Judge Justice Mohamed Ibrahim, describing him as an accomplished jurist whose legacy will continue to shape Kenya’s legal and judicial system for generations.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Deputy President said he was shocked by the passing of Justice Ibrahim, noting that Kenya had lost a fiercely independent judicial mind and a lifelong defender of rights and freedoms.
Justice Ibrahim, who served as a judge of the Supreme Court of Kenya, was widely respected for his long career in public service. Before joining the Bench, he spent many years as a public interest lawyer, where he distinguished himself by representing the vulnerable and championing constitutionalism, human rights and the rule of law.
Deputy President Kindiki said Justice Ibrahim brought exceptional intellect, calm authority and integrity to the Judiciary, earning admiration across the Bench and the Bar.
“He distinguished himself as a sharp judicial mind, fiercely independent and a calm but firm mentor to many younger members of the Kenyan Bench and the Bar,” Kindiki said.
As a judge, Justice Ibrahim played a key role in the development of Kenya’s constitutional jurisprudence, particularly following the promulgation of the 2010 Constitution. His judgments were known for their clarity, courage and deep respect for justice and fairness.
Kindiki noted that beyond his judicial work, Justice Ibrahim was a dedicated mentor whose influence extended well beyond the courtroom, shaping generations of lawyers and judges.
“An accomplished and industrious son of Kenya has rested, but his immense influence on the country’s legal and judicial system will permanently impact on many for generations to come,” the Deputy President said.
The Deputy President conveyed his condolences to Justice Ibrahim’s family, friends and colleagues in the Judiciary and legal fraternity, praying for comfort and strength during their time of grief.
Justice Mohamed Ibrahim’s death marks the end of a distinguished career in the service of justice, but his legacy, the Deputy President said, will remain firmly embedded in Kenya’s democratic and
legal institutions.
