The Speaker of the National Assembly, Moses Wetang’ula, on Thursday joined family members, friends, and leaders at Kibabii Catholic Church for a requiem mass in honour of his late brother, Mwalimu James Mukhwana Wetang’ula.

Speaking during the service, Speaker Wetang’ula paid glowing tribute to his brother, recognising his dedicated service to the country and deep commitment to family values.

“My brother selflessly served this country with honour and distinction. May he rest in eternal peace,” mourned Speaker Wetang’ula.

Accompanied by his brother, Tim Wanyonyi; the widow of the late James, Mrs Jane Nanjala Wetang’ula; and other family members, the Speaker reflected on their upbringing and close family bond.

“This is my brother. We grew up in our mother’s house and were close in age and in many ways. We never quarrelled or held grudges against each other.

He is the best brother anybody could have. I pray that families may live the way James lived, peacefully and in unity. May his soul rest in peace,” he said.

Speaker Wetang’ula also commended the Church for promoting unity, noting that religion plays a critical role in strengthening communities.

He further acknowledged his brother’s immense contribution to the education sector, where he served as a teacher and mentored many professionals across the region.

Later, while addressing mourners at his brother’s home in Tuuti, Kibabii, the Speaker eulogised the late Mwalimu James Mukhwana Wetang’ula as a peaceful, dignified man with a big heart for the entire family.

He urged family members, leaders, and mourners to emulate his brother’s character, particularly his commitment to peace and harmony in society.
