Nyeri Farmers Get Boost as Government Flags Off New Milk Coolers
Efforts to strengthen dairy farming in Nyeri County received a significant boost after Gender Principal Secretary Ann Wang’ombe joined Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe to officially flag off a consignment of milk coolers at Gatitu on Monday.
The initiative, led by the National Government, seeks to enhance milk preservation, improve quality and reduce post-harvest losses among smallholder farmers. Officials say the modern coolers will play a key role in modernizing the county’s agricultural sector and strengthening the dairy value chain.
PS Wang’ombe said the programme is aligned with Kenya’s broader agenda for economic transformation and sustainable development. She emphasized that providing farmers with modern technology is essential for raising productivity and increasing rural incomes.
CS Kagwe commended Nyeri leaders and residents for their continued collaboration with the government, noting that such unity drives progress not only in agriculture but also in infrastructure, education, health and other critical sectors.
Local leaders welcomed the investment, saying it reflects a renewed commitment to uplifting farmers and ensuring Nyeri remains a key contributor to Kenya’s socio-economic growth.
With the adoption of improved technologies and stronger value chains, Nyeri aims to position itself at the forefront of agricultural innovation in the country.
