New 2,000-Bed MTRH Hospital Breaks Ground in Kiplombe, Soy

A major step toward expanding access to quality healthcare in the Rift Valley region was marked today as the government officially broke ground for the construction of the new 2,000-bed Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) complex in Kiplombe.

The ceremony was graced by Cabinet Secretary for Health Aden Duale, alongside senior national and county leaders, including Uasin Gishu Woman Representative and Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly Gladys Boss Shollei.

Shollei hailed the project as “a historic milestone that will transform healthcare delivery for millions across the Rift Valley and beyond.” She noted that the hospital’s expansion will not only ease congestion at the current MTRH facility but also improve access to specialised services, medical training, and emergency care.

She expressed gratitude to President William Ruto for championing and allocating resources for the project.
“This is the Kenya he promised—where world-class healthcare becomes a reality for every citizen,” she said.

CS Duale reiterated the government’s commitment to strengthening the country’s health infrastructure, adding that the new MTRH unit would serve as a regional centre of excellence and create thousands of job opportunities during and after construction.

The 2,000-bed facility is expected to significantly expand healthcare capacity in the North Rift and support ongoing health sector reforms under the Kenya Kwanza administration.

Construction begins immediately, with the project set to proceed in phases.
