Laikipia Governor Ushers In 172 Newly Recruited Registered Nurses in Rumuruti

This afternoon, at the County Headquarters in Rumuruti, Governor Joshua Irungu officially welcomed 172 newly recruited Registered Nurses—drawn from various specializations—into permanent and pensionable positions, transitioning them from professional casual engagements.

With healthcare positioned as a top priority in his manifesto, the Governor emphasized spreading hope to patients, improving workplace efficiency, and enhancing the overall quality of healthcare services across Laikipia County.

The recruitment is set to significantly boost service delivery, particularly within hospital wards where nurses play a pivotal role in supervision, patient monitoring, and ensuring smooth day-to-day operations.

During his remarks, the Governor noted that the expanded workforce will facilitate the opening of several dispensaries that have remained non-operational due to staff shortages. He also highlighted that these facilities will soon benefit from additional services, including X-ray capabilities, consultation rooms, and ambulance support. Furthermore, ongoing plans under the supplementary budget include the introduction of CT scan services in Nyahururu and Nanyuki.

County Secretary Koinange Wahome described the recruitment as a major milestone in strengthening health service delivery in Laikipia.

The newly appointed nurses expressed gratitude to the Governor and county leadership for the opportunity. Speaking on behalf of the group, Magdalene Wahome thanked the administration and pledged their commitment to serving the community with dedication.

The ceremony was attended by County Secretary Koinange Wahome, officials from the County Public Service Board led by the Chairperson, CECM for Health Albert Taiti, Chief Officers Timothy Panga (Health), Abraham Lemanishoe (Water), John Gichuki (Land and Housing), Mary Gichuru (Livestock), Eng. Peter Macharia (Roads), CEOs from Nanyuki and Nyahururu Referral Hospitals, and various departmental directors.

Under the leadership of CECM Albert Taiti, Laikipia County’s health sector has grown phenomenally and continues to gain public confidence.
