Human Rights Activists and Leaders Condemn Brutal Attack of Kennedy Maswai in Kapseret, Call for Justice

Human rights defenders, political leaders, and community members in Kapseret have strongly condemned the brutal assault of Kennedy Maswai, a young man who was allegedly attacked by a group of goons believed to be politically affiliated with Kapseret Member of Parliament Oscar Sudi.

Maswai, who sustained serious injuries and underwent surgery, is currently recovering at a local hospital. According to witnesses, the attack occurred in the St. George’s area of Capsulate, where he was reportedly targeted because of his perceived political affiliations.

“We Expect Nothing but Justice,” Says Activist Kimutai Kirui

Prominent human rights activist Kimutai Kirui led the calls for justice, thanking the media and residents of St. George’s for standing with the victim while urging authorities to conduct an impartial investigation.

“The young man was beaten and left for dead by goons allegedly linked to the area MP. He underwent surgery — both eyes were swollen shut — but by God’s grace, he survived,” Kirui said. “We do not condone politically funded goons who use their wealth and connections to harm innocent citizens.”

Kirui said the attack represents a dangerous escalation of politically motivated violence in Kapseret.

“We expect nothing from the authorities except a fair investigation and justice for Kennedy Maswai. We don’t care who is powerful or connected — we only want justice,” he insisted.

He added that Maswai’s phone allegedly contains video recordings of the incident, which could serve as key evidence in the investigation.

Political Leaders Demand Accountability

Kapseret MP aspirant Pauline Tuei condemned the attack, saying it reflects growing lawlessness and political intolerance in the constituency.

“We want to see that those who attacked Maswai are arrested and charged,” Tuei said. “But if justice only applies to the poor while the rich and powerful walk free, then what is the meaning of us being Kenyans?”

Tuei urged citizens to remain peaceful but vigilant, saying the government must act to prevent further incidents of politically motivated violence.

“We cannot allow our people to be hurt again. If things continue this way, the people will be forced to take action,” she warned.

NCIC and Police Urged to Act

Kapseret MCA aspirant Edward Cheruya-Tum called on the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) and law enforcement agencies to intervene quickly.

“We want NCIC and all relevant authorities to investigate and take action against those inciting violence in Kapseret,” he said. “No one should be allowed to declare political war on others or threaten peace in our county.”

Sanchez Abumayang said inflammatory political rhetoric had emboldened violent groups, calling for leaders to preach peace and unity instead of hatred.

Police Confirm Investigation Underway

Responding to public concern, Kapseret Police Subcounty Commander Zephania Kamureng confirmed that investigations have been launched into the incident.

“The suspect has reported the matter to our police station, and we have started investigations to ensure that those who were involved are brought to book,” Kamureng said. “My officers also visited the person who was beaten, and we promise to take action against those involved.”

Commander Kamureng assured the public that the police will handle the matter professionally and that no one would be shielded from accountability.

Community Calls for Peace and Rule of Law

Kapseret MP aspirant John Chumba also visited the station to record a statement on behalf of the victim. He urged all leaders and residents to maintain peace and trust the process.

“We believe our citizen was attacked because of political reasons,” Chumba said. “We live in a democratic country where freedom of expression is guaranteed under Article 33 of the Constitution. No Kenyan should be attacked or intimidated for expressing their views.”

He emphasized that justice and peace must coexist for the community to move forward.

“We want a united Kapseret — one that believes in democracy and the rule of law,” Chumba stated. “No threat or intimidation should be tolerated.”

A Plea for Justice and Accountability

As Kennedy Maswai continues to recover, his case has become a rallying point for activists and reform-minded leaders demanding an end to political violence and impunity in Kapseret.

“This was a miracle,” said Kirui. “It was God who helped him survive. But we must ensure justice is done — not only for Kennedy, but for every Kenyan who has suffered political violence.”
