DP Kithure Kindiki Hails Eliud Kipchoge as a Legend Inspiring Kenya’s Next Generation of Athletes

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has paid glowing tribute to marathon legend Eliud Kipchoge, describing him as one of Kenya’s greatest sports icons whose legacy will continue to inspire generations of athletes.

Speaking following Kipchoge’s announcement of retirement from competitive marathon running, the Deputy President said the celebrated athlete’s discipline, humility, and consistency had elevated Kenya’s name on the global stage.“As the great Eliud Kipchoge retires from his stellar marathon career, he leaves behind a galaxy of young stars — men and women — who will take Kenya’s dominance in athletics into the future,” said Dr. Kindiki.

He noted that Kenya’s continued success in long-distance running, as witnessed during the New York Marathon on Sunday, reflects the depth of talent and inspiration Kipchoge has instilled in the new generation of runners.

“The evidence of this was manifest in the New York Marathon yesterday,” he added, commending the athletes who flew Kenya’s flag high in the international event.

Dr. Kindiki further lauded Kipchoge for his contribution beyond athletics, noting that his values of perseverance, humility, and belief in human potential will continue to inspire not only athletes but all Kenyans.
