Governor Kenneth Lusaka has called for calm and political maturity ahead of the forthcoming Chwele/Kabuchai Ward by-election, warning against acts of violence and vandalism of property.

Speaking on Tuesday in Chemwa during a meeting with members of the Batukwika clan, Lusaka drummed up support for Ford Kenya’s candidate, Vincent Maunda, while urging leaders to conduct issue-based campaigns rooted in respect and democracy.

“I want to categorically condemn the recent acts of political intolerance in Kabuchai,” Lusaka said. “Let us allow every candidate to sell their agenda peacefully and give the electorate space to make informed choices without fear or coercion.”

The Governor stressed that residents must be free to vote for leaders of their choice, noting that violence and aggressive theatrics have no place in the county’s political landscape.

“Every voter has a democratic right to choose their leader,” he noted. “Destruction of property and threats will not win elections. What will win is a credible manifesto and the ability to serve.”

Lusaka, who doubles up as the Ford Kenya Deputy Party Leader, appealed to all political actors to respect the rule of law and protect the peace that the county has enjoyed, saying no election is worth disrupting community harmony.

“I am urging all aspirants to preach peace,” he added. “Campaign responsibly, protect life, protect property, and remember that after elections, we remain neighbours.”

The by-election, slated for later this month, has drawn keen interest from local residents, with leaders now pushing for a peaceful and tolerant democratic process.
