Two Arrested, Sh5 Million Worth of Sandalwood Seized in Nyahururu
A multi-agency security team has arrested two suspects and seized sandalwood valued at approximately Sh5 million during an operation along the Nyahururu–Rumuruti road.
According to authorities, the operation was launched following a tip-off from intelligence sources. Officers intercepted a vehicle, registration number KAX 049C, which was reportedly transporting the prohibited forest product.
Upon inspection, the team discovered about 532 kilograms of sandalwood concealed inside the vehicle. The driver, identified as Edwin Tenai, and his accomplice Daniel Makori, were immediately arrested.
The suspects, along with the seized sandalwood and the vehicle, were taken to Nyahururu Police Station for further processing. They are expected to be arraigned once investigations are complete.
Officials confirmed that both the vehicle and the sandalwood are being held as exhibits.
Speaking after the operation, officers commended the swift coordination between agencies and reiterated the government’s determination to curb the illegal trade in sandalwood and other endangered resources.
“This is a strong message to those engaging in the unlawful exploitation of natural resources. The government remains firm in protecting our environment and ensuring that offenders face the full force of the law,” a security source stated.
