Governor Bii Hosts Minnesota Professor to strengthen Health Collaboration
Uasin Gishu Governor Dr. Jonathan Bii Chelilim has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening the county’s healthcare systems through global partnerships, following a high-level engagement with Dr. Meredith Kavalier, an Assistant Professor in the Division of Infectious Diseases and International Medicine at the University of Minnesota.
Dr. Kavalier, who also serves as an Executive Associate with AMPATH, paid a courtesy call to the Governor on Friday to explore avenues for collaboration in the health sector. Her visit focused on enhancing emergency medical services, nursing and doctor training, and capacity building for health professionals within Uasin Gishu County.
Governor Bii, accompanied by Deputy Governor Evans Kapkea, welcomed the partnership, terming it a timely boost in advancing his administration’s health agenda.
“We continue to pursue strategic partnerships that improve healthcare delivery and strengthen emergency response systems. This collaboration presents a great opportunity to share expertise and enhance service delivery for our residents,” said Governor Bii.
Dr. Kavalier lauded the county’s commitment to innovation and community-centered healthcare, noting that the University of Minnesota and AMPATH remain keen on supporting programs that bolster local capacity and improve patient outcomes.
Deputy Governor Kapkea emphasized the importance of global linkages in achieving sustainable health outcomes, saying the County Government is dedicated to leveraging international expertise to elevate local medical standards.
The engagement builds upon the existing Minneapolis–Uasin Gishu sister city relationship, which promotes collaboration in health, education, and community development.
Dr. Kavalier’s ongoing work with Moi University and Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital through AMPATH continues to expand initiatives in infectious disease management, medical education, and emergency care systems—efforts that align closely with Uasin Gishu’s development blueprint in healthcare.
Governor Bii concluded by noting that such partnerships are instrumental in realizing his administration’s vision of accessible, high-quality healthcare for all residents of Uasin Gishu
