Transforming Lives Through Youth Empowerment, Education, and Agribusiness – PS Treasury Dr. Chris Kiptoo at Tembelio Ward Public Baraza

 

This morning, Principal Secretary for the National Treasury, Dr. Chris Kiptoo, joined Hon. Prof. Phylis Bartoo, Member of Parliament for Moiben Constituency, at the Talket Youth Empowerment Centre in Tembelio Ward for a Public Baraza aimed at engaging local residents on key development issues.

The well-attended forum served as a platform for open dialogue on the future of the region, with a strong focus on education, youth empowerment, and expanding economic opportunities.

Speaking during the event, Dr. Kiptoo underscored the government's commitment to investing in people-centered development, particularly in rural areas.

“We must anchor our development agenda on the pillars of quality education, active youth participation, and sustainable economic ventures,” said Dr. Kiptoo. “The youth are not just the future—they are the present, and we must create platforms that unlock their full potential.”

One of the key highlights of the Baraza was a call to promote value addition and boost exports in the agriculture sector, specifically targeting high-value crops such as coffee and avocados. Dr. Kiptoo noted that by enhancing local processing and tapping into global markets, farmers stand to gain higher returns and long-term stability.

“Let us move beyond subsistence. With value addition and export promotion, crops like coffee and avocado can significantly raise household incomes and transform livelihoods in Moiben and across the country,” he added.

Hon. Prof. Bartoo reaffirmed her commitment to working with national and county governments, development partners, and community stakeholders to ensure Moiben Constituency remains at the forefront of socio-economic transformation.

The Baraza concluded with community pledges to strengthen youth programmes, improve school infrastructure, and support agribusiness ventures through cooperative societies and access to affordable financing.

As part of the government's broader economic agenda, the Treasury continues to prioritize policies that support grassroots development, industrial growth, and inclusive prosperity.
