MP Caleb Amisi Claims Governor Wanga’s Success Tied to Raila, Predicts Ruto’s Defeat in 2027
Saboti Member of Parliament Caleb Amisi has stirred political debate after claiming that Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga owes her political success to Raila Odinga, while also predicting a loss for President William Ruto in the 2027 General Election.
Speaking during a public event on Monday, Amisi said Governor Wanga’s rise in Luo Nyanza politics has been largely anchored on her association with the Azimio la Umoja leader, Raila Odinga, popularly known as Baba.
“Homabay Governor Gladys Wanga will not win; she has been winning because of Raila Odinga alias Baba,” Amisi declared, drawing cheers and jeers from sections of the crowd.
The outspoken ODM legislator also dismissed President Ruto’s chances of securing a second term in office, arguing that the head of state has lost touch with the common citizen despite his efforts to consolidate national support ahead of 2027.
“Whoever President William Ruto picks as running mate in 2027, he’s still going home,” Amisi said. “Even when they poison us as I have heard, he’s still going home!”
Amisi’s remarks appear to echo growing political tensions between the ruling Kenya Kwanza Alliance and the opposition Azimio coalition, as both camps begin early maneuvering for the 2027 polls.
Governor Wanga, a close ally of Raila Odinga and chairperson of the Council of Governors Finance Committee, has not publicly responded to Amisi’s comments.
Political analysts say Amisi’s statements reflect persistent divisions within ODM and broader uncertainty over Raila Odinga’s succession and influence in the region ahead of the next election.
