Different communities have visited the grave of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, three days after his burial, to pay their last respects. Some groups also performed traditional rituals in his honor.
Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka led a group of elders and members of the family of the late Elijah Masinde to Odinga’s grave. They described Raila as a close friend of their community.
“Anytime he came to Bungoma, he went to Elijah Masinde Wamene’s home and even built for him a mausoleum. Today, we have come with three of his wives, his son, and members of our community to say goodbye. We loved him in life and we still love him in death,” said Governor Lusaka.
Elders from the Agikuyu community also visited the grave to show respect to the Odinga family. They praised Raila for his peace efforts and strong ties with heroes from their community.
“Baba was a man of peace. He always spoke and worked for peace. People even called him an enigma because you could never fully understand him,” said one elder.
Raila’s widow, Mama Aida Odinga, also visited the grave earlier in the day. The late Raila Odinga was laid to rest beside his father, the late Jaramogi Oginga Odinga.
