Moi University Lecturers Vow to Continue Strike Until Demands Are Met
By Ivy Nyaboke
Lecturers at Moi University have vowed to continue their nationwide strike until the government fully addresses their demands. The strike, which has affected learning in public universities across Kenya, has entered another week, leaving thousands of students stranded.
The lecturers, through their union representatives, accuse the government of ignoring their calls for better pay, improved working conditions, and implementation of pending agreements. They say the state has failed to honour promises made in previous negotiations.
Speaking at the university grounds, union leaders said the strike will not end until all issues are resolved, adding that the government has shown little concern for the future of students in public universities.
Students at Moi University expressed frustration over the ongoing standoff, saying they have paid their fees but have been left idle with no classes. Some fear the disruption could delay their graduation and affect their career plans.
The Ministry of Education has yet to issue an official statement on the lecturers’ strike, which continues to paralyze learning in several public universities across the country.
