MCA Waithera Chege: We Will Not Allow Nairobi Residents to Be Dispossessed in the Name of “Planning”

The  Nairobi County Assembly has today ordered the **withdrawal of the controversial declaration** that sought to turn the **Nairobi River Corridor into a Special Planning Area (SPA)**.

As the **Member of County Assembly for South B Ward**, I stand firmly with the people of Nairobi in rejecting this **ill-advised notice** that was issued **without proper public participation**. Declaring a **60-metre zone beyond the high-water mark on each side of the river**—30 metres of riparian reserve and another 30 metres of so-called “development control area”—is a **direct assault on residents’ property rights**.

Let it be clear: **Nairobians with valid title deeds cannot and will not be rendered squatters on their own land.**

We are also demanding **fair representation** for Nairobi in the **Nairobi River Regeneration Committee**. Decisions that affect our people must be made **with us, not for us.
