Kenyan Toddler Safely Repatriated from Indonesia After Mother’s Incarceration
The State Department for Diaspora Affairs has successfully facilitated the safe repatriation of a Kenyan toddler from Indonesia, following the incarceration of the child’s mother in the Southeast Asian nation.
The child arrived at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) in the early hours of Saturday morning, accompanied by Diaspora Affairs Officer Ms. Grace Akello. Upon arrival, the toddler was warmly received by a team from the State Department comprising Ms. Felister Kebati, Ms. Shukri Sirat, and Ms. Florence Wangari.
In a coordinated inter-agency effort, officials from the Children’s Department for Mathare Constituency and representatives from the Center for Domestic Training and Development (CDTD) supervised the official handover of the toddler to his grandmother, witnessed by the child’s aunt.
The Government of Kenya, through the State Department for Diaspora Affairs and the Kenya Mission in Jakarta, covered the full cost of the repatriation. The compassionate intervention was aimed at preventing the minor from being placed in a children’s home abroad, as stipulated by Indonesian law when no guardian comes forward within a specified timeframe.
Principal Secretary for Diaspora Affairs, Ms. Roseline Njogu, who has been personally overseeing the case, commended the collaborative efforts that ensured the child’s safe return.
“This successful repatriation underscores our government’s firm commitment to protecting the rights and dignity of every Kenyan, wherever they are in the world,” said Ms. Njogu.
She lauded the teamwork between government officers, the Kenyan Mission in Jakarta, the Children’s Department, and CDTD, noting that such partnerships reflect the nation’s dedication to safeguarding the welfare of Kenyans abroad.
The State Department for Diaspora Affairs reaffirmed its ongoing commitment to protecting the welfare of all Kenyans in the diaspora, ensuring that none are left behind in times of need.
