Kenya and Spain Strengthen Bilateral Ties in Tourism and Conservation
The Cabinet Secretary for Tourism and Wildlife, Hon. Rebecca Miano, EGH, today hosted the Ambassador of Spain to Kenya, H.E. Jaime Moreno Bau, for a bilateral meeting aimed at renewing the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on tourism and conservation cooperation between the two nations.
The discussions focused on enhancing collaboration in sustainable tourism, digital transformation, and capacity building, with both parties expressing strong commitment to deepening their partnership in these strategic areas.
The renewed MoU seeks to leverage Spain’s global expertise in tourism competitiveness, particularly in the areas of e-tourism platforms, digital marketing, and data-driven promotion, to help Kenya expand its presence in European and global markets.
In turn, Kenya will share its successful community-based wildlife conservation model, which ensures that local communities benefit directly from tourism revenues and conservation efforts.
Speaking during the meeting, Cabinet Secretary Miano emphasized that the partnership will enable Kenya to diversify its tourism offerings by promoting cultural heritage, local communities, and historical sites, alongside its globally renowned wildlife attractions.
“This renewed cooperation marks an important milestone in strengthening our long-standing relations with Spain. It is a true win-win partnership that will promote sustainable tourism, support community livelihoods, and elevate Kenya’s position as a premier destination for diverse experiences,”
said CS Miano.
The collaboration underscores Kenya’s commitment to adopting innovative, sustainable, and inclusive practices in tourism development, in line with the country’s Vision 2030 and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
