Traders at Amoyo Centre in West Kanyadoto, Ndhiwa Constituency, Homa Bay County, have taken to the streets to protest a four-month power blackout that has crippled their businesses.

The business community says the prolonged outage has severely affected their daily operations. Entrepreneurs who rely on electricity — including salon operators, barbers, welders, and shopkeepers with refrigerators — report having lost millions of shillings in income.

Led by Benard Odingo, the traders marched through the streets demanding that Kenya Power restore electricity immediately. They accused the company of ignoring their complaints for months.

“We have been in the dark for four months. Our businesses are collapsing because of this power problem,” said Odingo.

The protesters also appealed to Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi to intervene and help resolve the issue.

According to residents, the blackout has not only hurt businesses but also disrupted learning in schools, healthcare services, and general household activities. They are now urging the government to ensure that power is restored promptly and that such prolonged outages do not occur again.
