Uasin Gishu Governor’s Press Director, Sila Koskei Terigin, has paid tribute to the late Rt. Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga during a visit to his final resting place at Kang’o ka Jaramogi in Bondo, describing him as a visionary leader whose legacy continues to inspire generations.
Terigin, who visited the Opoda Farm home on Friday, reflected on his past interactions with the late Raila during his days as a journalist covering political events in the North Rift. He said Raila’s charisma, humility, and respect for the media made him stand out as a true statesman.
“Standing at his graveside brought back vivid memories of his leadership and humanity. Raila was not only a political giant but also a friend to the media and a unifying figure across the country,” Terigin said.
He recalled how Raila’s visits to Eldoret always drew massive crowds and were characterized by meticulous organization, often coordinated by his long-time associate Kipkorir Menjo.
According to Terigin, the late opposition leader had a deep appreciation for culture, which he demonstrated through his active participation in events such as the Tobong Lore festival in Lodwar.
“He loved Kenya’s diversity and always celebrated it. His presence at cultural events brought people together, and the energy he generated would dominate national conversations for days,” he added.
Terigin noted that Raila’s strong bond with journalists made covering his assignments both memorable and fulfilling. “He valued our work. With him, you never worried about deadlines because he always gave us a story worth telling,” he said.
He also praised the smooth organization of Raila’s burial, which was reportedly planned within 72 hours, describing it as a reflection of the former Prime Minister’s foresight and attention to detail.
At Opoda Farm, Terigin observed that visitors continue to arrive from all corners of the country to pay their respects, demonstrating Raila’s lasting impact on Kenyans of all backgrounds.
“Raila Odinga was a leader who touched lives across political and social divides. His ideals of unity, democracy, and justice will continue to shape our nation’s destiny,” Terigin stated.
He further lauded Mama Ida Odinga for her resilience and continued role in preserving her late husband’s legacy.
The visit, coming weeks after the nation bid farewell to the long-serving statesman, served as a reminder of the immense influence Raila wielded in Kenyan politics and the deep sense of loss felt across the nation.
“When Raila spoke, the nation listened. His words carried weight, and his leadership inspired hope,” Terigin concluded.
