Dedan Kimathi Foundation Reaffirms Commitment to Mau Forest Conservation

The Dedan Kimathi Foundation today joined the State Department for Environment and Climate Change under the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Forestry, alongside other partners, for the Mau Conservation Marathon 2025 — a landmark event dedicated to raising awareness and mobilizing resources for the 10-year Mau Forest Complex Integrated Conservation and Livelihoods Improvement Programme (MFC-ICLIP).

Speaking during the event, Dedan Kimathi Foundation Chief Executive Officer, Ms. Evelyn Kimathi, reaffirmed the Foundation’s unwavering commitment to the protection and restoration of the Mau Forest ecosystem. She announced that the Foundation will continue to support the programme by donating 1,000,000 assorted tree seedlings annually — a significant contribution towards national reforestation efforts.

Ms. Kimathi, a passionate environmental champion, has been instrumental in driving community-based conservation initiatives that integrate environmental sustainability with improved livelihoods. Under her leadership, the Foundation has become a key partner in advancing Kenya’s climate action agenda through practical, people-centered approaches.

“The Mau Forest is not just a natural resource — it is the lifeline of our nation. By restoring and protecting it, we are safeguarding our collective future,” said Ms. Kimathi.

The Mau Conservation Marathon 2025 serves as a vital platform for rallying stakeholders, raising awareness, and mobilizing resources to ensure the sustainable restoration of one of Kenya’s most critical ecosystems.
