Arrow and Escape: Emurua Dikirr Incident Sparks Manhunt

 By Collins Wasike

A dramatic confrontation unfolded early Monday morning when a man armed with a bow and arrow shot a police officer during a routine patrol, then fled the scene despite sustaining a gunshot wound.

According to eyewitnesses, the suspect—believed to be in his late 30s—was spotted loitering near a livestock enclosure. When approached by officers for questioning, he allegedly drew a bow and fired an arrow that struck Police Constable Kiprotich in the shoulder. The officer collapsed, prompting his colleague to return fire, wounding the assailant in the leg.

Despite his injury, the man managed to escape into the nearby thickets, leaving behind a trail of blood and a crude quiver. Residents say he may have had knowledge of the terrain, which allowed him to vanish before reinforcements arrived.

Constable Kiprotich was rushed to Narok County Referral Hospital and is currently in stable condition. Authorities have launched a full-scale manhunt, deploying aerial surveillance and canine units to comb the rugged landscape.

Narok County Police Commander, David Mwangangi, condemned the attack, calling it “a brazen act of violence against law enforcement.” He urged locals to remain vigilant and report any sightings of the suspect, who is believed to be armed and dangerous.

The motive behind the attack remains unclear, though investigators are exploring links to recent livestock thefts and land disputes in the region.

As the search intensifies, the incident has reignited concerns over the safety of officers in remote areas and the growing use of traditional weapons in criminal acts. For now, Emurua Dikirr remains on edge, waiting for answers—and justice.
