Police Arrest Bandit, Recover AK-47 Rifle in Garissa Shootout
Police in Garissa Sub-County have arrested an armed bandit and recovered a cache of weapons following a shootout in the Dumpsite area of Garissa Town.
According to police reports, officers on patrol responded to public alerts of gunfire in the area earlier today. In the ensuing exchange, one suspect was subdued and arrested after sustaining a gunshot wound. He was rushed to Garissa County Referral Hospital, where he is currently admitted in fair condition.
During the operation, security officers recovered an AK-47 rifle, five magazines, a magazine pouch, and 128 rounds of ammunition. Police say the items have been secured as exhibits.
The National Police Service has confirmed that a manhunt is underway for the remaining bandits, who fled the scene during the confrontation.
In a statement, the Service commended members of the public and its officers for their swift response, urging continued cooperation in the fight against armed crime.
