Ruto Promises KSh2.5M Bonus to Harambee Stars for Zambia Win

President William Ruto has announced an enhanced cash and housing reward scheme for Harambee Stars players and technical bench members, in recognition of their stellar performance at the ongoing continental tournament.

Speaking on Monday afternoon after the team’s impressive 1–0 win over Morocco on Sunday, Ruto said each player and backroom staff member will receive KSh2.5 million if they win their final group match against Zambia this Sunday. The amount is a significant increase from the earlier KSh1 million pledge for a group-stage win.

So far, the Stars have already pocketed KSh2.5 million each from two victories – against Morocco and DR Congo – and a draw against Angola.

In addition, the Head of State promised each player a two-bedroom house under the Affordable Housing Programme if they qualify for the quarter-finals, plus an extra KSh1 million in cash for winning that stage. This would raise the potential individual earnings to KSh6 million, alongside a fully furnished home.

The incentives would increase further should the team reach the finals. “If you win the semi-final and advance to the finals, the houses will be upgraded to three-bedroom units,” Ruto pledged, sparking cheers from the players.

While making the announcement, President Ruto also fulfilled an earlier commitment by disbursing KSh1 million each to all 27 players and 15 technical staff members, totalling KSh42 million, for their victory over Morocco.

The President commended Kenyans – the “Twelfth Man” – for their passionate support, urging the Stars to sustain their winning form. “The nation believes in you and is united behind your success,” he told the team.

Harambee Stars now face Zambia in a decisive group clash on Sunday, with a potential windfall and upgraded homes awaiting if their winning run continues.
