Police Seize Bhang Worth Sh4.7 Million in Kakamega

Police in Kakamega have recovered 159.15 kilograms of bhang with an estimated street value of Sh4,774,500 after intercepting an abandoned vehicle along the Kakamega–Mumias Road.

The operation took place on August 12, 2025, when National Police Service officers on patrol spotted a suspicious black Toyota Fielder that had been left unattended by the roadside.

Upon searching the vehicle, officers found seven large bags packed with cannabis sativa. The car was immediately towed to Kakamega Police Station, where it is being held as detectives work to trace its owner and establish the origin of the drugs.

Security officials say the seizure is a major blow to drug traffickers operating in the region. “This recovery sends a strong message to those involved in the narcotics trade — the law will catch up with you,” a police spokesperson said.

The National Police Service has reaffirmed its commitment to intensifying operations against narcotics and other criminal activities, urging members of the public to provide information that could help in the fight against drug trafficking.
