The Department of Health has confirmed a single case of Mpox disease in Kiminini Subcounty, following laboratory analysis conducted by the National Public Health Laboratory in Nairobi.
The patient is currently receiving care locally, with county health officials actively monitoring the situation.

Speaking in Kitale Trans Nzoia County, Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Health Services and Sanitation, Mr. Sam Ojwang, assured the public that the case is being managed effectively. “Our health team has been on the ground in Waitaluk Ward for the past two days, conducting further assessments and sensitizing the community on appropriate management of Mpox,” he said.

In response to reports of similar symptoms among other residents, the county health department plans to send additional samples to Nairobi for testing. “We intend to take more samples tomorrow for further analysis,” Ojwang confirmed, emphasizing the department’s commitment to proactive surveillance and containment.

The county is working closely with the national government to implement containment measures. “We’ve put in place appropriate protocols to manage the situation and prevent further spread,” Ojwang noted, adding that a comprehensive public update will be issued tomorrow.

Ojwang also addressed concerns over misleading images circulating on social media, purportedly showing the confirmed Mpox case. “The picture being shared is not from our county.
This is total misinformation and misrepresentation of the situation,” he stated firmly. “Spreading lies or propaganda is not allowed by law. We urge the public to rely on verified information to avoid unnecessary panic.”

The CECM reassured residents that the health department is doing everything possible to contain the disease. “Rest assured, we are taking all necessary steps.
