Governor Bii’s Diversification Agenda Gains Momentum in Moiben as 19,000 Coffee Seedlings Distributed

Governor Dr. Jonathan Bii’s ambitious agricultural diversification agenda is taking firm root in Moiben Sub-County, where the county government has intensified efforts to promote coffee farming as a sustainable alternative to traditional maize cultivation.

In a high-impact sensitization forum held at the Moiben Sub-County offices, Chief Officer for Agriculture Mr. Elphas Kesio led a comprehensive outreach program that brought together local farmers, youth, agribusiness experts, and key stakeholders. The event marked a significant milestone with the distribution of over 19,000 certified coffee seedlings to area farmers—part of a broader strategy to transform the county’s agricultural landscape.

Addressing attendees, Kesio underscored the economic potential of coffee, particularly for smallholder farmers. “Even small plots can generate steady income when managed well. We are committed to walking this journey with our farmers by providing training, technical support, and market linkages,” he said. He also noted that agricultural officers have already been deployed across the region to offer hands-on support and monitor crop progress.

Moiben MCA Hon. Hilary Kipchumba joined the initiative, reinforcing his support for diversification and urging farmers to embrace the change. Also present were Agribusiness Director Joel Rutto, Coffee Officer Nicholas Maritim, and several local agripreneurs, all of whom echoed the call for a mindset shift among farmers and pledged continued training on best practices, including pest and disease control.

The drive also emphasized youth involvement in agriculture, with several young participants expressing interest in coffee farming as a viable and modern career path. “Agriculture is not just for the older generation—our youth have an important role in innovating and sustaining this transformation,” said Director Rutto.
