EACC, BORAQS Partner to Promote Integrity in Kenya’s Construction Sector
The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) and the Board of Registration of Architects and Quantity Surveyors (BORAQS) have committed to working together to enhance integrity, professionalism, and accountability within Kenya’s construction sector.
The commitment was made during a strategic meeting held at the Integrity Centre in Nairobi between EACC Chairperson David Oginde and a BORAQS delegation led by Chairman Silvester K. Muli.
During the discussions, the two institutions raised concern over emerging governance challenges in the construction industry, particularly the proliferation of unqualified practitioners and weaknesses in development control processes at the county level. The leaders noted that such gaps not only undermine professional standards but also heighten corruption risks and pose serious safety threats to the public.
BORAQS highlighted ongoing reforms aimed at strengthening regulatory oversight in the sector. These include the digitization of registration systems, improved complaints management mechanisms, legislative review initiatives, and enhanced collaboration with other regulatory agencies to curb malpractice and enforce compliance.
Dr. Oginde reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to partnering with professional and regulatory bodies to address corruption vulnerabilities, especially in capital-intensive sectors such as construction, where substantial public resources are invested. He emphasized that integrity failures in the built environment can result in significant financial losses and endanger lives.
Both institutions agreed to enhance cooperation under the Kenya Leadership Integrity Forum (KLIF) framework to promote transparency, strengthen professional accountability, and safeguard public resources within the built environment.
The renewed partnership signals a coordinated effort by oversight institutions to restore public confidence and uphold ethical standards across Kenya’s construction sector.
