Government Sensitizes NGAOs Ahead of 10-Day Mobile National ID Registration in Border Counties

The State Department has intensified preparations for a nationwide push to expand National ID registration, with Principal Secretary Dr. Belio Kipsang leading a sensitization exercise for National Government Administrative Officers (NGAOs) at Maralal Polytechnic in Samburu County.

The exercise aims to strengthen grassroots coordination and ensure effective implementation of the revised National ID registration guidelines ahead of a 10-day intensive mobile registration campaign scheduled to launch on 2nd February 2026 in West Pokot County. Samburu is among 15 targeted border counties that were previously affected by vetting processes.

Speaking to the officers, Dr. Kipsang emphasized the importance of efficient community mobilization to ensure all eligible residents acquire their National Identity Cards. “Chiefs and Assistant Chiefs have been doing commendable work in registering citizens. I urge you to intensify community sensitization so that no eligible resident is left out,” he said.

The Principal Secretary highlighted that the government has procured 91 additional mobile live capture machines and 54 vehicles to strengthen the rollout of the mobile registration exercise in disadvantaged border counties. He said these resources are intended to make the registration process faster, more accessible, and inclusive for all residents.

Dr. Kipsang also acknowledged the critical role played by local administration in ensuring the smooth registration of citizens and called on NGAOs to maintain high levels of coordination, accountability, and service delivery during the campaign.

The 10-day intensive mobile registration campaign is part of the government’s broader efforts to modernize the civil registration system, enhance identification of citizens, and improve access to essential public services.

Officials noted that the campaign will employ both fixed and mobile registration centers, targeting hard-to-reach areas to ensure that all eligible residents, including those in remote and border regions, can obtain their National IDs without undue difficulty.

Local leaders and community members are encouraged to cooperate with the authorities, participate in the sensitization drives, and ensure full turnout during the registration period.

The initiative is expected to significantly increase registration coverage, bringing the government closer to achieving universal citizen identification across the country.
