Senator Oburu Odinga has disclosed that his late brother, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, was battling a clot in his head before he passed away in India.

Speaking publicly, Oburu said that doctors in Nairobi had prescribed strong medication to treat the condition, which forced Raila to reduce his public engagements in the weeks leading to his demise.

“It was some clot that was discovered on his head, and it was being dissolved by our doctors here in Nairobi,” Oburu stated.

The Siaya senator clarified his earlier comments regarding Raila’s health, noting that while the former Prime Minister was unwell, he was not in critical condition. “I just said that he is unwell, like all human beings become unwell at any other time. He was not in critical condition,” he said.

The medication Raila was taking, according to Oburu, caused weakness and fatigue, preventing him from attending public events, including the burial of former minister Dalmas Otieno in Migori, where Oburu represented him. “I went to represent him there because he was feeling weak and tired because of that kind of medication,” he explained.

Oburu also revealed that a key meeting at Raila’s Karen home, attended by President William Ruto and himself, persuaded Raila to travel to India for treatment. He further disclosed that there had been a misunderstanding between Kenyan doctors and medical specialists in Dubai concerning Raila’s condition, prompting urgent intervention by the President.

“My brother had told me that Ruto had gone to the United Nations General Assembly and that he was supposed to meet him at State House in the evening. He also agreed that I could go with him to hear what Ruto had to say about his sickness,” Oburu said.
