Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital Conducts Bronchoscopy Camp to Boost Early Lung Disease Diagnosis
Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) has launched a specialized Bronchoscopy Camp this week, bringing together a team of pulmonologists, anesthesiologists, and pathologists to enhance early diagnosis and treatment of lung and respiratory diseases.
The camp focuses on early detection of lung conditions, including lung cancer, infections, and interstitial lung disease, while also offering specialized sample testing and therapeutic interventions for infections and removal of foreign bodies.
Supported by a grant from the Olympus Foundation, the initiative is expected to benefit 20 patients, providing them with access to advanced diagnostic procedures and expert medical care.
The multidisciplinary surgical team at the camp includes:
-
Pulmonologists: Prof. Lameck Diero, Dr. Aliya Noor, Dr. Maria Srour, Dr. Caroline Lusweti, and Dr. Daisy Korir
-
Anesthesiologists: Dr. Victor Mutai, Dr. Josephat Kerema, and Dr. Rose Shitzinzi
-
Pathologists: Dr. Chesori and Dr. Dorothy Mmbaiza
Prof. Lameck Diero emphasized the importance of early diagnosis, noting that timely intervention can significantly improve outcomes for patients with lung diseases.
The camp is part of MTRH’s broader commitment to strengthening respiratory healthcare services in Kenya and providing specialized care that was previously difficult for many patients to access.
