Human Rights Activist Condemns Brutal Attack on Kennedy Kimeli, Urges Swift Justice and Calm

 

 Eldoret-based human rights activist Kipkorir Ngetich has strongly condemned the brutal attack on Kennedy Kimeli, which took place on Sunday night in Kapseret Sub-County, describing it as a shocking act of attempted murder that threatens the safety of the community at large.

Kimeli, who is currently admitted at Racecourse Hospital in Langas, is reportedly in stable condition but continues to receive treatment for injuries sustained during the attack. Ngetich expressed his solidarity with Kimeli and called for urgent measures to protect him and other potential victims.

“We condemn in the strongest terms possible the barbaric attack on Kennedy Kimeli. The security officers must move swiftly to apprehend the attackers and ensure that justice is served. The safety of every citizen is paramount, and no one should live in fear,” Ngetich said.

Kimeli had recently raised concerns about his personal safety on social media, a warning that has now gained alarming significance in light of the attack. Ngetich noted that such incidents highlight a larger issue of insecurity in parts of Uasin Gishu County and emphasized that violence against one person is a threat to the entire community.

“A threat or danger to one person is a danger to all of us. This is why we are urging the DCIO Langas, who is leading the investigation, to leave no stone unturned. It is critical to determine whether this was a random criminal act or an organized attempt on Kimeli’s life,” he said.

The activist called on citizens to cooperate with security agencies by providing any information that could help in tracing the attackers and resolving the case swiftly. He stressed that public vigilance is essential in ensuring justice is delivered and that such attacks do not go unpunished.

“We are appealing to all members of the public to volunteer any information they may have to security officers. This is not just Kennedy Kimeli’s fight—it is a fight for the safety and security of the entire community,” Ngetich emphasized.

Ngetich also warned against the politicization of the attack and the spread of unverified information on social media. He urged online users to refrain from speculation or posting content that could incite panic, hatred, or division.

“The public should remain calm and allow the security officers to conduct a thorough investigation. It is critical that we do not poison or polarize the environment surrounding this case. Speculation and incitement will only worsen an already tense situation,” he added.

The activist further highlighted a rising trend of insecurity in the region, pointing to a recent incident in Cheptiret, where a person was reported missing and has yet to be traced. He urged authorities to take urgent action to address these security challenges.

“These insecurities must be addressed with urgency. We are calling on the government and security agencies to act decisively to restore public confidence and ensure that our communities are safe. Everyone has a right to live without fear of violence,” Ngetich said.

Ngetich concluded by appealing for peace, tolerance, and unity among citizens. He reiterated that society must remain cohesive and civilized, and that justice should prevail without interference from political or social biases.

“We envision a society where peace, tolerance, and harmony are upheld. Let this incident serve as a reminder that violence has no place in our communities. Let us stand together to ensure that justice is done, and that no individual lives in fear,” he concluded.

Security agencies in Langas are continuing investigations into the attack, and residents have been urged to provide any relevant information to aid in the apprehension of the perpetrators.
