A 38-year-old Kenyan woman, Harriet Mary Wabwire, has been arrested by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) for allegedly defrauding a Chinese national of Ksh. 13 million. Wabwire posed as the Director of OTD Group Limited, claiming she could supply aluminium alloys.
To make the deal appear legitimate, she forged a Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) certificate of conformity, asserting that a 40-foot container carrying 23,890 kg of aluminium alloys was ready for shipment from Mombasa to Ningbo, China.
After the victim transferred the money, Wabwire disappeared and switched off her phone. The DCI later tracked her to a hideout in Tassia, where she was arrested. She is currently in custody awaiting arraignment.
