A couple from Ramoya village in Kajwang’ Sub-location has been arrested for allegedly subjecting their seven-year-old son to severe abuse after accusing him of stealing and eating fish from the family kitchen.
The disturbing incident, which has shocked the local community, came to light after concerned neighbors reported the matter to local authorities. The child, a Grade Three pupil, is said to have suffered painful burns on both hands after his parents reportedly punished him using molten plastic.
Kajwang’ Assistant Chief Enos Nyawade, who led the arrest on Monday evening, said that the mother is accused of setting plastic carrier bags on fire and forcing the boy to hold his hands under the dripping molten plastic.
“We established that the mother set plastic carrier bags on fire and, as the melting plastic dripped, forced the child to place his hands underneath,” Nyawade stated.
Further investigations revealed that before the burning incident, the boy’s father allegedly forced him to consume the entire fish he was accused of stealing as a form of punishment. The brutal treatment left the child with visible injuries, prompting swift action from authorities.
Ndhiwa Sub-county Police Commander John Losia confirmed the arrest of the suspects, who are currently being held at Ndhiwa Police Station.
“The couple will face joint charges related to assault and child abuse,” Losia said.
