Housing Principal Secretary, Charles Hinga, has had an in-depth look at the Mukuru Social Housing project in Nairobi County, a crucial development in the government’s efforts to address the affordable housing crisis in Kenya. The project, once completed, will provide 13,248 modern housing units designed to offer affordable living spaces for thousands of Nairobi residents.

The project will feature a mix of housing types, including 5,616 studio apartments, 3,024 one-bedroom apartments, and 4,608 two-bedroom apartments. This diverse range of units is aimed at meeting the needs of Nairobi's rapidly growing population, ensuring that individuals and families of various income levels will have access to quality housing.

Alongside the residential units, the Mukuru Social Housing development will offer a variety of modern amenities. These include speedy lifts for easy access to upper floors, refuse chutes for convenient waste disposal, a spacious courtyard that will serve as a community gathering space, sewer connections to ensure effective waste management, and ample parking spaces for both residents and visitors.

In his address, PS Charles Hinga reiterated the government’s commitment to tackling the country’s housing challenges and providing affordable, well-designed homes to its citizens. The Mukuru Social Housing project is part of the Boma Yangu affordable housing program, a national initiative focused on creating secure, sustainable communities for low- and middle-income families.

PS Hinga emphasized that this project is not just about building houses but about fostering vibrant, thriving communities. The inclusion of essential infrastructure such as sanitation, waste management, and community spaces will contribute to a higher quality of life for residents.

The government’s broader urban development vision aims to transform informal settlements and integrate modern infrastructure into Kenya's growing cities. The Mukuru Social Housing project is set to play a pivotal role in improving the living conditions of Nairobi's underserved communities.
