MTRH Commemorates World Lupus Day

‎Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) joined Autoimmune Disease Warriors (Lupus Warriors), their caregivers, and members of the community at Chandaria Chronic and Cancer Disease Centre (CCCDC) to commemorate the World Lupus Day held on Saturday 10th May, 2025.
‎This gathering was part of a global advocacy effort aimed at creating greater awareness and understanding of Lupus, its challenges, provide education and services to people living with the disease, as well as the importance of early diagnosis and support.
‎Lupus, also known as Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE), is a chronic autoimmune disease where the body's immune system mistakenly attacks healthy tissues.
‎This can affect various organs including the skin, joints, kidneys, blood, heart, and lungs with symptoms ranging from mild to severe, often fluctuating between periods of remission and flares.
‎The event aligned with this year’s theme: “Shine a Light on Lupus”, reflecting the Hospital’s collective mission to bring visibility to the condition and amplify the voices of those affected.
‎MTRH multidisciplinary team at the Awareness event was led by Dr. Beryl Ganda (Rheumatologist) and Dr. Evangeline Njiru (Hematologist).
