Eldoret-based human rights activist Kipkorir Ngetich has called on the residents and citizens of Mt Kenya to reject what he termed as a "dangerous and divisive tribal outfit" launched by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
In a strongly-worded statement issued on Wednesday, Ngetich described Gachagua’s new political formation as a tool designed not for national unity but to fuel tribal sentiments, isolate the Kikuyu community, and destabilize the country.
“This is not a movement for the good of Kenya or the Mt Kenya region,” Ngetich said. “It is a personal vehicle crafted by a man known for tribal politics, revenge, and divisive rhetoric. Rigathi Gachagua is sacrificing the Kikuyu nation at the altar of his own political survival.”
According to Ngetich, the outfit—rumored to be known as the Democratic Conservative Party (DCP)—is part of a larger strategy by Gachagua to build a tribal power base under the guise of protecting regional interests. He warned that such a move would not only isolate the Mt Kenya region but also risk plunging the country back into ethnic-based politics.
“The people of Mt Kenya must now make a choice—whether to remain in the national fabric of a united Kenya or to follow a self-proclaimed tribal chief whose legacy is rooted in fear, intimidation, and exclusion,” he added.
Ngetich reminded Mt Kenya residents of Gachagua’s history during the KANU era as a provincial administrator, accusing him of suppressing freedoms and enriching himself at the expense of his people. He described the former deputy president’s current political efforts as a “narcissistic campaign of self-interest masked as regional salvation.”
“The Kikuyu are known across Kenya for their hard work and economic contributions in every corner of this nation. They live, trade, and intermarry with all communities. It is unthinkable that one man should now drag them into a corner of hate and division,” said Ngetich.
The activist praised President William Ruto’s inclusive development approach and national unity agenda, saying Gachagua's political agenda directly undermines the progress made under the current government.
“Youth from Mt Kenya must be especially wary. They are the future of a united, progressive, and tribal-free Kenya. We cannot let one man’s hunger for power set the region and the country backwards,” he warned.
Ngetich concluded by urging Mt Kenya residents to reject Gachagua’s new party, warning that aligning with it would leave the region politically isolated and in opposition come the 2027 elections.
“This is not about democracy. It’s about decency, unity, and national progress. The mountain must wake up to this reality before it's too late,” he said.
