Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga has expressed deep concern over an incident involving her Deputy Governor, Hon. Oyugi Magwanga, which occurred on the evening of May 11.
In a public statement released today, Governor Wanga urged swift and impartial investigations by security agencies to establish the facts and bring any culprits to justice.
“Any occurrence that raises concern about the safety and security of our leaders deserves attention and immediate action,” she said.
While specific details of the incident remain unclear, the Governor’s statement emphasized the emotional weight the event carries, coming just days after the county was plunged into mourning following the death of Kasipul MP, Hon. Charles Ong’ondo Were.
“This incident has come at a time when our county is still mourning the recent loss of Hon. Charles Ong’ondo Were,” Governor Wanga noted.
Calling for calm, unity, and respect for the rule of law, the Governor appealed to Homa Bay residents to remain peaceful and resist any attempts to politicize or inflame tensions surrounding the matter.
“I also appeal to the people of Homa Bay to remain calm and united during this difficult time. Let us reject violence in all its forms and stand together for peace, justice, and the rule of law,” she added.
Security agencies are yet to issue an official statement on the matter. Meanwhile, local leaders and residents have begun voicing support for the Deputy Governor and the Governor's call for peace.
