Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) has officially inducted Dr. Brenda Molonko, PhD, as a new member of its Board of Directors. Dr. Molonko joins the Board as the Alternate to the Principal Secretary, National Treasury and Economic Planning.

The induction ceremony took place on Thursday, May 15, at the MTRH main campus in Eldoret. Speaking during the event, MTRH Chief Executive Officer Dr. Philip Kirwa welcomed Dr. Molonko on behalf of the Board Chairman, Mr. Sitoyo Lopokoiyit, MBS, and the hospital's entire leadership.

Dr. Kirwa lauded Dr. Molonko’s extensive expertise in public finance and administration, citing her over 15 years of experience at the National Treasury in various senior roles. He expressed confidence that her background would bring valuable insight to MTRH, especially in areas of fiscal discipline, accountability, and strategic resource mobilization.

“At MTRH, we remain steadfast in ensuring prudent utilization of public resources in line with government policy, while maintaining our commitment to excellence in healthcare delivery, medical training, and research,” Dr. Kirwa said.

In her remarks, Dr. Molonko thanked the Board and MTRH management for the warm reception and comprehensive induction process. She acknowledged the current fiscal constraints facing public institutions but commended the hospital’s proactive approach to cost-saving and operational efficiency.

“Despite budgetary pressures, MTRH has shown resilience through innovation and strategic planning. The National Treasury stands with institutions like MTRH that prioritize responsible financial stewardship and measurable public service outcomes,” she noted.

Following the induction, Dr. Molonko toured several of MTRH’s flagship facilities and projects, including the Data Centre, Renal Dialysis Centre, Chandaria Cancer and Chronic Diseases Centre, MRI and Interventional Radiology & Cath Lab Centre, the Oxygen Generation Plant, Riley Mother and Baby Hospital, Newborn Unit, and the Shoe4Africa Children’s Hospital.

Her appointment is expected to bolster the hospital’s alignment with national health and fiscal priorities, particularly in the face of evolving healthcare demands and economic challenges.

Also present at the induction were Board Members Prof. Kuremu Tenge, MBS, Dr. Erneo Nyakiba, Ms. Peris Birichi, and Ms. Judith Jerotich, along with senior directors and members of the hospital management team.
