Natembeya, Eugene and Malala Warned Against Inciting the Luhya Nation

Outspoken Eldoret-based human rights advocate Kipkorir Ngetich has strongly condemned what he termed as “a dangerous trend of inciteful political mobilization” by Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya, alongside former Defence Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa and  former UDA Secretary-General Cleophas Malala.

In a statement released Monday, Ngetich criticized a series of political meetings recently held in Western Kenya, which he described as “public incitement forums masked as community engagements.” According to the activist, these gatherings do not reflect democratic discourse, but rather spread venomous and divisive rhetoric intended to destabilize the peace and unity of the Luhya nation.

“As much as our Constitution guarantees freedom of speech and assembly, these freedoms are being grossly abused by a group of politicians whose intentions are clearly not in the best interests of the people,” Ngetich said. “It is the height of hypocrisy for leaders like Natembeya to undermine the very government working to revive sugar factories in Western Kenya, which had nearly collapsed under previous regimes.”

Ngetich applauded President William Ruto’s efforts in reviving the sugar sector, noting that significant progress had been made in ensuring that workers, farmers, creditors, and suppliers were being paid after years of neglect.

He further accused Governor Natembeya of pursuing a “selfish political agenda,” alleging that his political activities are being financed by former President Uhuru Kenyatta and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, with the aim of undermining the current administration and polarizing the region.

“The Luhya community must be made aware that Governor Natembeya is not acting in their interest. His political mission is externally funded and tailored to divide and mislead,” he claimed.

Ngetich urged leaders of Natembeya’s stature to support government initiatives that promote peace and development rather than engaging in “reckless campaigns of hate and tribalism.” He warned that any attempt to sow discord under the guise of political freedom should be met with firm legal action.

“There is no country that can survive deliberate polarization and incitement without risking civil strife. The police must act swiftly and decisively against anyone abusing their freedoms to ignite tension,” he added.

In closing, Ngetich called on President Ruto to remain steadfast in his leadership and not be distracted by what he called “self-centered political warmongers.” He appealed to Kenyans to reject tribal politics and uphold national unity.

“Kenya is not immune to chaos. But with vigilance, patriotism, and collective responsibility, we can preserve our peace and chart a stable future,” he concluded.
