Former Public Service CS Justin Muturi Urges President Ruto to Resign Over Credibility Concerns

In an unprecedented and deeply personal appeal, I must today break my silence on the state of our nation under the leadership of President William Samoei Ruto. With great reluctance but unwavering conviction, I am compelled to call upon the President to do the honorable thing: resign from office.

As a former Cabinet Secretary and lifelong servant of the Republic, I do not issue these words lightly. They are born not out of personal bitterness or political rivalry, but out of profound concern for the integrity of our democratic institutions and the moral fabric of our society.

President Ruto has, regrettably, demonstrated a consistent and alarming pattern of dishonesty and manipulation. What is perhaps most painful is that these untruths are not hidden — they are told boldly, in broad daylight, before cameras and microphones, and worse still, before the very citizens he swore to serve with dignity and truth.

Kenyans are not fools. They have watched, listened, and catalogued the contradictions. They remember the promises made — on the cost of living, on public debt, on appointments, on the fight against corruption — and they now see a government drifting further from its mandate, led by a man who appears detached from the real struggles of the people.

A leader must be many things — visionary, decisive, compassionate — but above all, he must be honest. When trust is broken at the top, it erodes the entire system beneath it. Today, Kenyans are disillusioned, demoralized, and increasingly restless. They feel betrayed.

Mr. President, you once claimed to be a hustler, a man of the people, a reformer. But power has revealed a different character — one that dismisses accountability and thrives on political theatrics instead of real solutions. You have become an incorrigible liar, and that is not merely unbecoming — it is dangerous.

For the sake of our republic, our Constitution, and future generations, I urge you to consider stepping aside. Let the country begin a process of healing and rebuilding, led by men and women whose words mean something, and whose leadership inspires hope rather than despair.

History will remember this moment. You still have a choice in how it remembers you.

Justin B. N. Muturi,
Former Cabinet Secretary for Public Service
Former Speaker of the National Assembly
