Officers from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) on Monday morning raided the Milimani residence of Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya in what sources say is part of an ongoing investigation into alleged misuse of public funds.
The raid, which began at dawn, saw heavily armed EACC officers cordon off the governor’s private home, while a team conducted an intensive search of the premises. Several documents and electronic devices were reportedly confiscated for forensic examination.
Speaking shortly after the incident, Governor Natembeya condemned the operation, terming it “a political witch-hunt aimed at silencing vocal leaders.”
“We cannot use the politics of blackmail and intimidation as a tool to silence dissent, control opposition, and force loyalty,” said the governor outside his residence. “Wamekuja Milimani, but we shall overcome.”
The EACC has yet to issue an official statement detailing the nature of the investigation, but insiders suggest the probe may be linked to procurement irregularities and alleged embezzlement of county funds.
The dramatic operation has stirred political debate, with Natembeya’s allies accusing the state of weaponizing institutions against reform-minded leaders.
