Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration, Hon. Kipchumba Murkomen, this afternoon paid a courtesy call on his counterpart, the Cabinet Secretary for Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs, Hon. Ali Hassan Joho, at his office in Nairobi.
The meeting focused on strengthening inter-ministerial collaboration to secure Kenya’s mining and blue economy sectors—two critical areas that hold significant potential for job creation, economic diversification, and sustainable development.
Hon. Murkomen commended CS Joho for his robust efforts to unlock the full potential of these sectors, noting that the Ministry of Interior is committed to supporting these initiatives by enhancing security and regulatory enforcement.
“CS Joho is pulling out all the stops to optimize the potential of our mining and blue economy sectors,” said CS Murkomen. “We are working closely to ensure that enforcement agencies are aligned to curb illegal mining, protect marine resources, and create a secure environment that boosts investor confidence.”
Discussions also explored ways to tighten the enforcement of regulations at key sites such as mining fields, ports, and coastal waters, with a focus on eliminating illicit trade, ensuring environmental compliance, and safeguarding local communities.
Both leaders affirmed the importance of a whole-of-government approach in managing the natural wealth of the nation and agreed to establish a joint task force that will streamline coordination between law enforcement and regulatory bodies under the two ministries.
CS Joho emphasized that unlocking the economic value of Kenya’s mineral and marine resources must go hand-in-hand with responsible governance and security guarantees.
“Our vision for a thriving blue economy and mining sector cannot be realized without strong institutions and a firm grip on law enforcement,” said CS Joho. “This partnership with the Ministry of Interior is vital to that mission.”
