In a significant step toward enhancing transparency and accountability in governance, the County Government this week hosted a high-level delegation from the Commission on Administrative Justice (CAJ), also known as the Office of the Ombudsman, for a two-day engagement focused on the domestication of the Complaint Handling Mechanism and the Access to Information Law.
Led by CAJ Chairperson Mr. Charles Dulo, the delegation commended the county for its ongoing commitment to addressing public complaints and improving service delivery. Mr. Dulo highlighted the Commission’s mandate to promote administrative justice, resolve complaints, and educate the public—core functions that support the effective functioning of devolved units.
"The right to access information and the ability to lodge complaints are not just legal provisions—they are foundational to citizen trust and good governance," said Mr. Dulo during the meeting.
The forum was chaired by Deputy Governor Prof. Grace Cheserek, who reaffirmed the county administration’s dedication to fostering a culture of transparency, integrity, and fairness. She underscored the importance of addressing maladministration, promoting ethical leadership, and investing in capacity building to support public service excellence.
FLLoCA County Coordinator and Program Manager Mr. Barsosio K. Abraham emphasized the critical need for a fully functional and inclusive grievance redress mechanism across the county, noting it as essential for responsive governance.
The county encouraged residents to raise any complaints through ward offices, the Governor’s Office, or the official complaints line: 0704 220 220.
“Together, we are building a government that listens, responds, and evolves with the needs of its people,” said Prof. Cheserek.
The meeting brought together key county officials including County Secretary Mr. Lazarus Chebii, County Attorney Dorcus Cheruiyot, Chief of Staff Nathan Tanui, Chief Officers Isaac Koech and Daniel Kimutai, as well as technical teams from the Governance and Development Unit (GDU). Also present was Madam Dorothy Jemator, Vice Chairperson of CAJ, along with other members of the Commission’s technical team.
