A young girl from Apegei village in Chakol North Ward, Teso South Sub-County, is receiving a new lease on life thanks to the timely intervention of Busia County Woman Representative Catherine Omanyo.

Faith Opamo, a school-aged girl who recently underwent a leg amputation due to a severe medical condition, had been battling intense physical pain and had dropped out of school, her dreams hanging in the balance.

According to Hon. Omanyo, she encountered the girl in a dire state—overwhelmed by pain and with little hope for her future. “Every encounter is purposeful,” Omanyo said. “When I met Faith, I saw a fighter despite her suffering. I knew I had to do something.”

Moved by Faith’s courage and determination, the legislator took full responsibility for her medical treatment and pledged to sponsor her education. Faith is currently recovering in hospital and, upon discharge, will be enrolled at Omanyo’s school on a full scholarship.

“Faith now has reasons to smile,” Omanyo added. “Her pain is being managed, and her hope has been restored. She will return to school stronger and with the dignity she deserves.”

The gesture has been hailed by the local community and education advocates as a powerful example of leadership grounded in compassion.

Omanyo, known for her advocacy for education and women’s rights, emphasized that her actions are guided by faith and a deep sense of service. “All glory and honour to God for allowing me to serve as a vessel of hope. This is what leadership is about—uplifting others.”
