The Chief Executive Officer of the National Land Commission (NLC), CHRP Kabale Tache Arero, has lauded the strides being made toward empowering women in Northern Kenya. Speaking after attending the Northern Kenya Women Professional Leadership Forum held at the Bomas of Kenya, she emphasized the significance of the event in driving transformative change for women in the region.
The forum, spearheaded by Ummi Bashir, CBS, Principal Secretary for the State Department of Culture, the Arts, and Heritage, brought together a diverse group of women leaders. The primary agenda was to develop a comprehensive five-year strategic plan aimed at addressing the unique challenges faced by women across Northern Kenya counties.
Kabale Tache Arero highlighted that the plan encompasses several key objectives designed to foster sustainable development. These include promoting gender equality and women’s leadership, enhancing access to quality healthcare and education, strengthening resource distribution and economic empowerment, and supporting climate resilience and sustainable livelihoods.
“These goals are critical for creating a more equitable and prosperous future for women in Northern Kenya. They will not only uplift women but also drive holistic development in the region,” she said.
The forum also attracted notable participants, including Hon. Rehema Jaldesa, Chair of the National Gender and Equality Commission (NGEC); Amb. Rukia Subow, a veteran women leader; and Commissioner Tiyah Galgalo, among others. Their presence underscored the importance of collaborative efforts in advancing women’s rights and addressing systemic challenges.
This initiative, Kabale noted, is a testament to the power of partnership and collective leadership in fostering lasting solutions. The forum’s outcomes are expected to significantly impact gender equity, resource allocation, and socio-economic progress for women in Northern Kenya.
“The journey to empowering women and ensuring inclusivity in leadership is far from over, but events like this bring us closer to achieving the dream of a more just and equitable society,” Kabale concluded.
This strategic focus on women in Northern Kenya is a critical step toward achieving long-term sustainable development, paving the way for a brighter future for generations to come.
