TENP Hosts Rift Valley Dual TVET Project Handover as Government Takes Lead in Skills Training

The Eldoret National Polytechnic (TENP) has hosted the Rift Valley Regional Dual Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Project Closure and Hand-Over Meeting, marking a major milestone in efforts to strengthen industry-driven skills training and ensure the sustainability of the programme.

The meeting, held on October 27, 2026, at Eka Hotel in Eldoret, brought together stakeholders under the theme “Towards a Sustainable Government-Led Dual TVET: Handover, Ownership and Continuity.”

In his opening remarks, TENP Chief Principal Dr. Charles Koech highlighted the project's achievements in strengthening institutional capacity, expanding partnerships between training institutions and industry, enhancing workplace mentorship and aligning technical training with labour market demands.

Dr. Koech commended the project's contribution to improving the quality and relevance of technical training, noting the importance of equipping trainees with practical skills that respond to the needs of employers and the changing job market.

He also expressed appreciation to the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland and GFA Consulting Group for their invaluable support towards the implementation of the Dual TVET programme.

Special recognition was extended to Kevin Rotich and Jennifer Githinji for their mentorship, dedication and commitment to supporting the implementation of Dual TVET across the Rift Valley region.

The project closure and handover mark a transition towards government-led coordination through the State Department for TVET and the Dual Training Coordination Unit (DTCU), with stakeholders reaffirming their commitment to sustaining the gains achieved during the project's implementation.

The transition is expected to strengthen government ownership of the programme while ensuring continuity in collaboration between technical training institutions and industry players.

Dual TVET combines classroom-based learning with practical workplace experience, enabling trainees to acquire hands-on competencies while exposing them to real working environments. The approach is designed to bridge the gap between theoretical instruction and industry requirements, improving graduates' employability and productivity.

Stakeholders at the meeting emphasized the need for continued collaboration among government agencies, training institutions, development partners and employers to ensure that the programme remains effective beyond the project's closure.

For TENP, the initiative aligns with its commitment to providing market-relevant technical training, empowering trainees with practical competencies and preparing a skilled workforce capable of contributing to Kenya's economic development.

The institution reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening industry partnerships and promoting skills development that responds to emerging opportunities in the labour market.

The handover comes at a critical time when technical and vocational education continues to play a central role in preparing young people for employment, entrepreneurship and the country's growing demand for skilled professionals.

TENP continues to champion its vision of bridging the gap between skills training and industry needs, with a renewed focus on empowering trainees to compete effectively in the modern workplace.
